Get your Tail to the Buffalo Zoo!

“Warm Up With The Cold-Blooded” at the Buffalo Zoo
January 15, 2011

BUFFALO, NY— Come in out of the cold, and celebrate “Warm Up With the Cold-Blooded” with your favorite scaly friends in the Buffalo Zoo’s Reptile House on Saturday, January 15, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Visitors will enjoy hot drinks as they listen to keeper talks, play games and watch handling demonstrations and feedings. All activities are free with Zoo admission.

The schedule of events is as follows:

11:00 a.m.         Hellbender Headstart Presentation

11:30 a.m.         Weight contest: Guess the weights of our endangered turtles, Tomi & Sully, and learn more about their confiscation story (prizes awarded)

12:00 p.m.         Enrichment Keeper Talk

12:30 p.m.         Snake Feed & Keeper Talk on Venomous Species

1:30 p.m.           “Do You Hear What I Hear” guessing game (prizes awarded)

2:00 p.m.           Animal Ambassador Pictures (Bring your camera to have a picture taken with a Buffalo Zoo reptile)

2:30 p.m.           Hellbender Feed & Trivia Game (prizes awarded)

Internship available at the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy


Intern for Institutional Advancement

Duration: Spring Semester (Late January until Early May)

Duties Include but are not limited to:

  • Assistance in building a comprehensive database of other non-profit institutions, lodgings, and notable cultural institutions in the area for the purpose of extending our visibility. 
  • Helping in management of Raisers Edge database.
  • Assistance with the management of the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy’s blog and social networking sites, including Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube.  This may include the creation of content for the sites in the form of essays, reflections, and photographs.
  • Online research of varying degrees.
  • Help in day to day office duties including sending mailings & responding to email queries.

Qualifications:

A qualified candidate for this internship should ideally possess the following:

  • An outgoing personality and good communication skills
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills
  • Competence in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
  • Strong online researching skills
  • A personal computer (although not a requirement)
  • A working familiarity with social networking including Facebook, Twitter, and Blogger.
  • Attention to detail to work reliably in Raisers Edge.

An intern for institutional advancement will:

  • Gain an understanding of the day to day workings of a professional not-for-profit institution
  • Gain experience in the Raisers Edge program
  • Gain experience in data entry
  • Improve and understand the significance of social networking in the workplace
  • Develop important writing & word processing skills for future employment
